Hi all,
I'd like to go to Disney world in Orlando, as I don't live that far from it and it's easy for me to get to the place. However, it would be difficult to go by myself as I've never been, the crowds and the park/s are huge..etc..etc.
I'd like to go with someone. I've called the park and they said that they don't have any service that can take people around the park or anything like that. They said that the hotel guest services can, but that you have to pay not only the ticket fees (which is expected..), but also have to pay them by the hour I forget the price they quoted.
If any of this info is wrong, let me know. Or, if anyone would like to go with me, splitting the costs and such let me know. :) If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great as I'd like to go at some point. I'm just surprised it isn't more accessible to get around for people that are blind.
There is a device which you can get at the Customer service desk, which provides ride descriptions, (similar to audio description for tv), and also tells you about near by atractions. It tells you what atractions you are near, but it does not tell you exactly when you are near an atraction, just in the general vicinity. I know nothing about navigating the park independently, since I went with sighted friends.
though I went to the one in California, I assume accessibility is the same for both parks.
There is also a braille guidebook availlable, but alas no tactile map of the park that I know of.
Take somebody who can see. Trust me. You would get totally disoriented by yourself. Having said that, it's amazing, and you gotta stop by customer service and get a VIP pass to let you skip the lines. Also, you may need a bit more time to get on some rides, as they have moving sidewalks and the like which the ride operators may have to stop so you can get in your ride vehicle. Vox me. We'll talk about it if ya want. I'm going back in September.
Hmmm. I've never been to an amusement park by myself, but I think it's deffinetly up there as one of the harder places to travel independently. It wouldn't be impossible, but the question would be if it is worth the hassle. After all people go there to enjoy the rides and attractions. I was there when I was 12 so I don't remember exactly how it was. I just remember Space Mountain, and if it is still there I would recommend you hit that ride at some point. It's awesome if you like roller coasters. I've heard it gets fairly hot there in the summer, so the best time to go would probably be in the winter when it's more mild there. If I had the money I would go.
I've never gone to an amusement park by myself either and can't imagine it would be much fun. Even when I went with two friends, making a total of three of us wanting to get on rides together, most seats on most rides are made for two, so one of us always had to sit next to a stranger. We took turns doing this, but it's just not as much fun, and if you went by yourself, you'd be sitting with a stranger on every ride. I'd definitely keep trying to find someone to go with and look into the above suggestions because it looks like Disney World does offer quite a few perks for disabled customers.
Space Mountain's a great ride, as is Aerosmith's Rockin' Roller Coaster, and of course Everest Expedition, and Dinosaur. Disney's unlike anywhere I've ever gone as far as amusement parks go. Everyone there is very helpful and considerate of any special needs.
I wish we had more time there. I was picked with a handful of middle school students to go there for a day, and that was not enough considering the size of the place and all the rides and things.
Yeah Jessee I'll vox you for sure..
Thanks for all the suggestions! I appreciate it! Trust me, I'd love to go with people that can see would be more easy.
would just echo that I wouldn't atempt it with out someone with full sight or near to, I am not a total and I think it'd be hard to navigate crowds were big when I went.
I'd love to go back sometime doesn't matter on age everyone can apriciate it.
Totally agree with last poster! :)
